2016 Art Summary

It’s been a hugely eventful year for me - and one in which I feel like I’ve grown and learnt a whole lot, and ultimately emerged better for it, both in my artistic and personal life. Here’s to more growth to come, in 2017!

Inktober 2016

I did Inktober this year for the first time in a couple of years and it was a lot of fun! I used post-it notes to keep my workload light and casual. I started out following the official guidelines with some characters of mine, but eventually it turned into assorted valve fanart, dragon people, and a whole week's worth of bat drawings.

Some roughs from very exciting freelance work! I only did this small shot, but you don't get the offer to animate the Powerpuff Girls every day. My 13-year-old self would be proud.

The Message

I made this looping cycle for my New Media class, inspired by the Marshall McLuhan quote "the medium is the message", and how ideas can come across rather differently depending on how they are transmitted. Though a lot of interesting things were discussed in that class, typically enough I couldn't just pick one to explore deeply, so I based this a lot more on feel and impression rather than thinking too much about it. I think it worked out. I tend to be more satisfied with what I produce when I'm not thinking too much.
